BE HEARD:

Become a Live Local Leader

A new program gives a political voice to those who

work in Novato and must commute long distances

because Novato’s home prices are out of reach, or who

already live in Novato but struggle with high home

costs. The Live Local Novato Leadership Program

invites you to join.

To create a more sustainable community, more people

need to live closer to work. To support homes for

Novato employees, community members need to hear

directly from the people who would benefit most.

Don’t accept the status quo; become a part of a team

that creates the change you wish to see. As a member of

the Live Local Novato Leadership Program, you will:

• Meet with influential political leaders

• Have the opportunity to tell your personal story

and be heard by key decision-makers

• Be a “change agent” to create a more sustainable

community

• Learn important life skills through training in

public speaking

• Learn how to speak effectively and powerfully so

people will listen to you

• Learn how planning decisions are made

• Receive information on the current housing

situation in Novato

• Have the opportunity to meet and interact with

other people who work or live in Novato

• Be recognized by local dignitaries for your efforts

“Change will not come if we wait for

some other person, some other time.

We are the ones we have been waiting

for. We are the change we seek.”

—President Barack Obama

Hate traffic?

Traffic is growing worse, and one reason is that more

and more people who work in Marin and have strong

roots in the community must commute in from another

county.

Novato needs an ample supply of homes our workers,

seniors and young families can live in.

• The single biggest step we can do to ease traffic

and reduce our car emissions is to make it easier

for people to live closer to where they work.

• Currently, 7 out of every 10 people who work in

Novato commute here from outside of Marin.

• The people we rely on daily like teachers, retail

clerks, restaurant workers, nurses, chefs, and day

caregivers all deserve the opportunity to live in

our community.

LIVE LOCAL:

Strong roots, short commutes

When a big home becomes more difficult to
care for as we age, an older person needs
to find a place to live that is smaller, nearer to
transportation and various services.
Small affordable homes for the elderly are
an important factor for the community.”

Patsy White,
Novato Citizen of the Year 2008

“Promoting workforce housing meets all of the County’s goals for sustainability. It strengthens the economy, improves the environment by reducing traffic congestion

through transit-oriented development, and fulfills social equity goals.”

Judy Arnold, President, Marin County Board of Supervisors
